Oak Ay is the Trondheim-based electronic alias of Simen Helbæk Kjølberg, crafting emotionally rich music that blends organic textures, analogue synths, and ambient soundscapes with rhythmic, danceable energy. The sound is moody yet expansive, shifting between introspective headphone journeys and immersive live experiences. After making an impact at Trondheim Calling 2020 as a duo, Oak Ay has gradually become an artist to keep an eye on in the Norwegian electronic scene. It's the only act to officially remix the internationally acclaimed band Kalandra, approaching 200 000 Spotify streams for the remix of The Waiting Game. Several tracks - including Hipass Femme from the 2021 EP "Everything is Oak Ay" - have received praise from Norwegian national radio NRK P3, spotlighting Oak Ay's distinctive blend of emotion and experimentation. In 2022, a music video for the single Heater further expanded its visual and conceptual universe. Now returning after a period of reflection and development, Oak Ay steps forward with a sound that is more confident in its identity - and relentlessly unwilling to conform to any fixed ruleset. Live performances are designed as immersive, audiovisual experiences, carefully constructed to draw listeners into Oak Ay's evolving sonic world. With a new EP arriving on the long-running electronic label Beatservice Records in August 2025 and more releases planned for 2026, Oak Ay is entering a bold new chapter - introspective, unpredictable, and distinctly its own. For fans of Bonobo, Four Tet, Tycho or Röyksopp, Oak Ay delivers electronic music that resonates far beyond the dancefloor. |
