The two Gimsøy, Lofoten EP's from Mind over MIDI have a slightly different approach than the normal releases, both from Beatservice Records and Mind over MIDI. Normally, the music comes first, then the artwork is made to fit the music. Here, it was the other way around. The photo's on the covers were taken by photographer Einar Bangsund on a roundtrip to Gimsøy in Lofoten in 1990. The striking images have been in the back of the mind of label boss Vidar Hanssen, but the right project fitting the images never surfaced. Instead, he gave Helge Tømmervåg aka Mind over MIDI these images, and commissioned him to make music for the two photos. Helge Tømmervåg googled information about Gimsøy to get an understanding of the island and what it means for people living there. Musically, the main idea was to go a bit retro/vintage stylewise, since this was the feeling Helge Tømmervåg got from the images. |
