01 | Age Of Steam |
Oslo-based musical polymath Third Attempt is back in Beatservice Records action with perhaps his most funk-flecked workout to date - the bass-driven disco powerhouse, 'Age Of Steam'. Third Attempt (aka Torje Fagertun Spilde) has been dazzling us with his far-reaching music since arriving in the Beatservice fold with 'Shoreline' back in 2018, and since then his ever-evolving repertoire has continued to serve up delicious sonic surprises. The rapidly-rising 23-year old artist has wasted no time making his mark, displaying a frenetic work rate alongside an impeccable ear for constructing compelling leftfield grooves. His latest release arrives hot on the heels of the majestic 'Beats From The Quarantine' album, and the music he presents here is among the most irresistible from a roundly enjoyable (and constantly growing) archive. The mid-tempo chug of 'Age Of Steam' unfolds over a crisp, club-ready rhythm. Heavy funk guitars, joyously dancing keys and distant vocal stabs cascade over driving bass before soaring strings herald the arrival of a slick breakdown section. The icing on the cake arrives as bubbling acid joins sensational horn motifs, breaking down once again for a starry-eyed beatless passage that leaves us yearning for a reprise. Arriving like a leviathan locomotive headed directly for backroom disco heaven, 'Age Of Steam' is sure to shine further light on this fiercely talented and irresistibly exciting young producer. |

01 | Nu Funk |
Beatservice Records are thrilled to present the latest mesmerising single from leftfield maestro Third Attempt, who digs deep into his sonic repertoire to serve the full-bodied rolling groove of 'Nu Funk'. Oslo's Torje Fagertun Spilde – better known as Third Attempt – is quickly making a name for himself as one of the most reliably exciting producers to emerge from Norway's rich meta-disco lineage. His last single, 'Age Of Steam', arrived bursting with bass-heavy funk flex, and we're thrilled to report that his newest effort is no less kinetically charged. As the name suggests, 'Nu Funk' is a contemporary exploration of deeply-rooted funk sensibilities. Combining warm bass with tightly constructed beats, Third Attempt dexterously merges far-reaching musical aesthetics that include trip hop, funk, soul and disco to deliver a sound that - although endowed with vintage sensibilities - feels proudly up to date. The track begins with snappy hip hop vocal samples scratched over tight beats and a delectable bass guitar hook. The groove pauses for dubbed-out space delays to echo into the night before a singing lead guitar joins the rhythm elements to burst back into life. Forging a heads-down furrow from which there's no escape, the seductive beats maintain the course as vocal chops, flute motifs, elegant strings, and otherworldly sweeps elegantly meander across the panorama. Just as we've come to expect from Third Attempt, this is warm, organic and utterly alluring work. Taken from a forthcoming album that's set to land in the coming months, we are beyond excited to hear what the young talent will come up with next. |

01 | Sunbeam Symphony |
Third Attempt is back on Beatservice Records with yet more delightful audio honey, this time arriving with the gloriously soothing groove of 'Sunbeam Symphony'. 23-year-old producer Third Attempt has been in sparkling form of late. With a pair of exquisite singles having recently arrived in quick succession, his latest creation is again plucked from his hotly anticipated long-player slated to arrive in the coming months. While his previous outings have been blessed with heavy doses of floor-focused funk, 'Sunbeam Symphony' finds him in a delightfully laid-back mood with a track destined to provide the soundtrack for blissed-out sun-downs, poolside abandon, and at-home meditations. Set over a groove that arrives like a cool summer breeze, the track evolves over soul-soothing chords, weighted bass and slick, rolling beats. Hypnotic e-piano guides us into position as the drums build the energy, the bass notes power us forward as Third Attempt's dextrous keyboard solo dazzles momentarily before subsiding for a dub-infused break. Spaced-out vocal chops and rising sweeps build tension before the sprightly drum fill sparks a return to the groove. Once again, the virtuoso solo steals the show, soaring over the irresistable groove before congas arrive to cement the intoxicating rhythm. Showing absolutely no signs of abating his breathtaking audio output, Third Attempt once again shows production class and a formidable ability to skirt through musical genres on his indelible sonic quest. |

Beatservice Records are thrilled to present the hotly-anticipated third album from Oslo-based production maestro, Third Attempt. 'The Novel Sound' follows on from the widely acclaimed 'Beats From The Quarantine' album released in April 2021, and further compliments the young artist's deserved reputation as one of the dance underground's most exciting talents to emerge in recent years. Third Attempt (aka Torje Fagertun Spilde) has been dazzling us with his far-reaching music since arriving in the Beatservice fold with 'Shoreline' back in 2018, and since then his ever-evolving repertoire has continued to serve up immaculate sonic surprises. The fast-rising 23-year old artist has wasted no time making his indelible mark, displaying a frenetic work rate alongside an impeccable ear for constructing compelling leftfield grooves. 'The Novel Sound' opens with the rolling deviance of 'Freak Out', where a dusty string sample makes way for vocal samples, scratches, and searing sirens permeating a bass-heavy groove, setting the tone magnificently for the music that's primed to unfold. Next, we arrive in the mid-tempo chug of 'Age Of Steam'. Evolving over a crisp, club-ready rhythm, heavy funk guitars, dancing keys and distant vocal stabs cascade over driving bass before soaring strings herald the arrival of a slick breakdown section. The icing on the cake arrives as bubbling acid joins sensational horn motifs, breaking down once again for a starry-eyed beatless passage that leaves us yearning for a reprise. 'My Girl' features amorous vocal samples hovering over an irresistible disco beat, with alluring rhythm guitars and dreamy e-piano chords setting the scene for rousing horns to blast off into blissful summer skies. Before we've found time to catch our breath, 'Nu Funk' arrives with snappy hip hop samples scratched over tight beats and a delectable bass guitar hook. The groove pauses for dubbed-out space delays to echo into the night before a singing lead guitar joins the rhythm elements to burst back into life, with flute motifs, elegant strings, and otherworldly sweeps elegantly meandering across the panorama. Set over a groove that arrives like a cool summer breeze, 'Sunbeam Symphony' drifts over soul-soothing chords, weighted bass and slick, rolling beats. Hypnotic keys guide us into position as the drums build energy and the bass notes power us forward. Third Attempt's dextrous keyboard solo dazzles momentarily before subsiding for a dub-infused break, with spaced-out vocal chops and rising sweeps building tension before the groove resumes and the virtuoso solo once again majestically soars. Maintaining the sun-kissed meditations, 'Definite' effortlessly floats through waves of thick bass, funk guitar chops and elegantly fused samples, with seductive chords, hypnotic horns and laser-tight drums combining to create a near overpowering dream state. The heavy trip-hop rhythms of 'Nightfall' enrapture the listener as rich chords discreetly beckon, with cascading congas, mysterious melodies and exotic refrains building before the glorious lead vocal appears like a hyper-luminous flash of light. The chords disappear into the nothingness, before the carefully selected sample of 'Working Man' drifts in to fill the empty space. Smokey drums soon arrive, joined by weighted bass, foggy chords and an enigmatic whistle lead, fusing to conjure a half-lit world lifted from the pages of an evocative film noir novel. The enlivening tablas, glitchy effects and saucer-eyed sweeps of 'Greed' hide subliminal messages casting a knowing eye over the consumer-driven society and self-help culture that pervade our society, before we arrive at the album's charmed finale. 'Last Winter Of My Childhood' yet again manages to transport the listener into a gently hallucinatory realm, with drowsy bass notes, tripped out pads and emotive strings building to a profound and rush-inducing crescendo. 'The Novel Sound' once again sees Third Attempt dextrously merging expansive musical aesthetics that fuse trip-hop, funk, soul and disco to deliver a sound that – although endowed with vintage sensibilities – feels proudly up to date. Continuing his breathtaking development in dazzling style, the album feels destined to echo over blissed-out sunsets, back-room excursions and twilight skies for many years to come. |

01 | Sunbeam Symphony (Third Attempt Club Remix) |
Beatservice Records welcome back Third Attempt, with the fast-rising artist stepping up to remix his very own 'Sunbeam Symphony'. The trip-hop themed original version appeared on Third Attempt's brilliant album 'The Novel Sound', with the sparkling club rework poised to introduce the music to all-new audiences. Beyond any shadow of a doubt, Torje Fagertun Spilde - better known as Third Attempt - has been one of the most intriguing young artists to emerge in recent years. Showing a musical understanding that belies his young age, he breezily glides through genres with his carefully woven productions. His sound appears to evolve with every new release, as Beatservice Records continue to provide a nurturing platform from which he can freely develop his craft. Here, he exhibits yet another string to his production bow, serving a gorgeously atmospheric and club remix of 'Sunbeam Symphony'. Though the hazy vibrations of the original echo through the new version in the form of the sun-drenched chords and floating motifs, the music is effortlessly reframed with dancefloors firmly in mind. Formed over a crisp house rhythm, the melodic refrains take on new life as psychedelic leads and subtle synth textures elegantly combine over sublime bass notes. The child's vocal resonates through the track, with Spilde displaying his finely-tuned knack for repurposing spoken word samples to evocative effect. 01 | Age Of Steam (Ransel Remix) |
Beatservice Records are thrilled to present Ransel's hypnotic rework of Third Attempt's organ-drenched album track, 'Age Of Steam'. The original version appeared on Third Attempt's sensational log-player, 'The Novel Sound', earlier this year, with its funk-flecked and acid-tinged groove perfectly pitched for remix treatment. Ushered in to take the controls, Øivind 'Kohib' Sjøvoll revisits his new Ransel moniker following his recently released 'Islands' EP, picking up where he left off with this imaginative and typically refined revision. Torje Fagertun Spilde is one of the most promising breakout acts to emerge from the Norwegian electronic underground in recent times, and 'The Novel Sound' continued his artistic development in breathtaking style. 'Age Of Steam' was one of many highlights, and Ransel wastes no time invigorating the track with some propulsive production finesse. Utilising key organ phrases while stripping back the instrumentation to its barest essentials, his mesmerising interpretation sees the loose-limbed keys saunter over seriously infectious percussion licks. Intricately woven poly-rhythms drive deeply-rooted bass across waves of dubby effects and distant vocal, creating a driving and wildly atmospheric heads-down groove. Unquestionably deep but endowed with enough energy to move even the most stubborn dancefloors, this gloriously textured club workout provides an irresistible new take on 'Age Of Steam' - and is yet another inspired piece of curation from the Beatservice Records team. |
